Sovereign Hill is a recreated goldfields township on a site forming part of the richest alluvial goldfields the world has ever seen. At Sovereign Hill you can pan for real gold; see craftsmen at work in traditional 1850s trades; and enjoy a tour of the Red Hill Mine dipicting the discovery of the 69kg Welcome Nugget, the second largest gold nugget ever found. Visitors will experience the tensions and the drama of the Eureka rebellion as they move through a series of galleries using multi-media technology to vividly bring the Eureka story to life. Afterwards visitors may choose to relax in the Stockade Coffee Kiosk, or browse the Eureka Shop for that special souvenir.

Have a great family fun day at the Tangled Maze and Mistydowns Nursery, a large and unusual Botanical Maze bursting with flowers. Bring a picnic and take in the fabulous views or enjoy a tasty meal in the cosy cafe, followed with a browse in Mistydowns Nursery.

Ballarat's famous Lake Wendouree is one of the main social and recreational centres of the city. It is a very popular area for all types of gatherings, and is used for sailing, rowing, fishing, windsurfing and many other water sports, as well as being a fun location for family picnics or barbecues.
